AI will replace junior developers within 5 years

# Tech takes

The court convenes a labor-market dispute being argued nightly on every tech podcast. The defendant is the entry-level rung of the ladder.

RED CORNER

The writing is on the wall

A junior developer's job is mostly translating a clear spec into code, fixing small bugs, and writing tests. Models already do that, faster, at a fraction of the cost, with infinite patience for code review. By 2031 the entry-level hire will be the person operating the model, not the person writing the loop. The org chart is about to compress.

BLUE CORNER

Tooling is not judgment

Code is the easy part of being a developer. The hard parts are figuring out which problem to solve, negotiating with stakeholders, reading a messy legacy codebase, and shipping something that survives contact with users. Models can autocomplete a function. They cannot be a junior teammate. Replacing juniors means no seniors in ten years — companies that do this will regret it loudly.
