RED CORNER
The Last Jedi is the only sequel-trilogy film that takes a real swing. Luke's arc as a disillusioned master is the most honest thing the franchise has done since Empire. Throne room fight, milk scene, hyperspace ram — these are the images people will remember when the safer films have faded.
BLUE CORNER
A Star Wars film should not feel embarrassed to be a Star Wars film. The humor undercuts every dramatic beat, Holdo could have shared a plan in one sentence, and the Canto Bight detour exists for no reason. Bold swings only count if they connect. This one whiffed.
